On Thursday, March 7, the Out Loud in the Library series will celebrate the rich intersection of words and visual art with their March offering: WORDS+. This event will feature both local and visiting writers and artists. The participants include:

  • Lynn Young – A teaching artist at the school who is currently completing her master’s degree in creative writing at UH-Manoa. She also teaches Side by Side, an interdisciplinary workshop that combines visual art, creative writing and bookmaking.
  • Maiana Minahal –  Educator, interdisciplinary artist, and author of the poetry collection Legend Sondayo, published by Civil Defense Poetry. After earning her MFA from Antioch University, she taught at the University of California, Berkeley, at the University of Minnesota, at Laney College, and at San Francisco City College; she currently teaches at Kapiolani Community College.
  • Tyler Chin-Tanner – Graphic novelist and founder of the comic book and graphic novel publishing company A Wave Blue World. His graphic novel, American Terrorist, was featured in The New York Times Holiday Book Review. He lives in Portland, OR with his wife, poet Wendy Chin-Tanner, and daughter, Maddy.
