It’s time…it’s time…it’s Book End Time!  Welcome to this week’s Book End, highlighting the weekend’s literary and library events here in Hawaii.

This Friday, Watermark Publishing will be hosting a Holiday Book Fair from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Cades Schutte Building Lanai on 1000 Bishop Street.  A lot of Watermark Publishing’s books will be available for purchase at discounted prices during the fair.

From 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., there will be book signings with a number of cookbook contributors.  Chef Alan Wong will be presenting his new cookbook, The Blue Tomato: The Inspirations Behind the Cuisine of Alan Wong.

A number of chefs that contributed to The Hawaii Farmers Market Cookbook — Vol. 2: The Chefs’ Guide to Fresh Island Foods (read our review: [Book Review: The Hawai’i Farmers Market Cookbook, Volume 2]) including Chef Kevin Chong (Chef Mavro Restaurant), Chef Hiroshi Fukui (Hiroshi Eurasian Tapas), and Chef Eric Leterc (The Pacific Club) will also be available to sign.

Last, but not least, Arnold Hiura, author of award-winning cookbook Kau Kau: Cuisine & Culture in the Hawaiian Islands (read our review: [Arnold Hiura’s “Kau Kau” is onolicious reading]), will be present to sign his book as well.  A great event with excellent books on sale and a plethora of talented chefs and writers make this a must-see event for anyone in the area!

In addition, Watermark Publishing will continue their Holiday Book Sale online at their website, bookshawaii.net, from December 3 until December 12.

Letters About Literature Contest (as taken from librarieshawaii.org)

Letters About Literature is a national reading and writing program sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, Target and the Hawaii Center for the Book. Students in grades 4-12 are asked to write a letter to an author who inspired them. To enter, go to the Letters About Literature website at http://www.lettersaboutliterature.org/ .   • 09:00am – Meet author Kerry Germain at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center Christmas Fair being held at 86-260 Farrington Hwy.  It runs from 9am – 2pm.  Kerry will be signing her books from the Surf’s Up For Kimo series of children’s books.  Call 697-3300 for more info.
  • 11:30am – Meet Arnold Hiura, the author of Kau Kau: Cuisine & Culture in the Hawaiian Islands.  He’ll be signing copies of his books at Watermark Publishing’s Holiday Book Fair on the corner of Bishop St. and King St. from 11:30am to 1:30pm.  Arnold also co-wrote with Chef Alan Wong the latest cookbook from Watermark Publishing, The Blue Tomato, which will be available at this event.

  • 10:00am – Bill’s Bookmobile returns to Saturdays (first Saturday of every month)!  This Saturday the bookmobile will feature ALL MUSIC (CD’s and records), Holiday, Cookbooks, Hobbies and Children’s Books.  Find it at 690 Pohukaina Street.  More info

  • 10:00am – Enjoy keiki story time at Borders in Pearlridge.  Kids of all ages are invited to this weekly event.  More info
  • 10:00am – If you live on Maui, you can enjoy Children’s Story Time at Barnes & Noble in Lahaina.  More info
  • 10:00am – Kauai!  The Friends of the North Shore Library will be holding a book sale at the Princeville Public Library from 10am – 4pm.  Proceeds will no doubt go to helping fund the library.  Support your local library and get great deals on books!  Call 826-4312 for more info.
  • 10:00am – Feng Feng Hutchins will be at Winter Wonderland V, Calvary Church of the Pacific from 10am – 1pm.  Her new children’s picture book Plenty Saimin will be available for her to sign.  The church is at 99-400 Aiea Heights Drive.  More info
  • 10:30am – Sing Along with Uncle Wayne at the Hawaii State Library.  “Uncle Wayne” Watkins will inspire children to get up and move with him as he strums his acoustic guitar and sings a variety of classic children’s songs, as well as his original music.  Program is recommended for children of all ages.   • 11:00am – A string quartet from the Oahu Civic Orchestra will present a free Holiday concert playing Holiday music at Hawaii Kai Public Library.  The Friends of Hawaii Kai Public Library is sponsoring this one-hour concert which is recommended for ages 5 and older.   • 11:00am – Children’s Story Time at Barnes & Noble Ala Moana.  They’ll be reading Fancy Nancy and the Fabulous Fashion BoutiqueMore info
  • 11:30am – The Honolulu Handbell Ensemble will perform music of the holiday season at the Hawaii State Library!  Under the direction of Anne Craig Lum, the ensemble is made up of mostly handbell choir directors from different churches on Oahu. This 45-minute program will be held in the front lobby and is recommended for all ages. For more information, call 586-3477.
  • 12:00pm – Book Signing at Borders in Ward Centre.  Meet Janet Spurr, the author of Beach Chair Diaries—a collection of seaside tales from Maui to Maine.  She will be signing copies of her book.  Call 591-8995 for more information.
