It’s time…it’s time…it’s Book End Time!  Welcome to this week’s Book End, highlighting the weekend’s literary and library events here in Hawaii.

If you’ve visited our page before, and have had the courage to explore our limited fare, you may have come across our primitive book list, which was just a simple listing of all the books we’ve featured on Hawaii Book Blog.  I’ve been meaning to remedy this list into something a little more dynamic, and have finally found something that I am happy with (for now).  It was a tedious task copying in all the information of the books we’ve covered, but I am now done for the most part with it.  You can check out our new Book List page here or just click on Book List on the menu bar just beneath our banner.

The coolest thing I found about this new table is the search function.  It’s an instant query, so you don’t have to reload the page—as you type in the letters, the table will immediately begin sorting!  I’ve also added info on the publisher, date published, and a “tags” column where I’ll classify the books by type (literary fiction, cook books, etc.) and major themes (i.e. Japanese, World War II).

Whether you like the new book list or not, please feel free to provide me with any feedback on it.  I’m also looking to expand the book list page by including links to a number of the themed book list posts that we write, so that if you’re looking for something more specific, we may have written a post about that.  So, keep checking out our Book List for all the new books we review, new lists of books we compile, and more!

It’s somewhat of an aside, but I recently joined Book Journey’s 2011 Where Are You Reading Challenge.  Given that the majority of books I read are from one specific state (can you guess?), I thought it might be fun to try and read 49 books from the other states in the Union before the year is up.  Can I do it?  Given my plodding pace, I doubt it, but either way I’ll have fun trying.

What I really dug about the challenge is the use of Google Maps to create a visual representation of your reading goals.  You can check out my map here…although as of this moment I have nothing to show for it!  🙂  Hopefully that will change soon, but I’m currently reading (at a crawling speed) a 900 page biography, a 400+ page history book and an 800 page fantasy book (on a Kindle), none of which will contribute to my map!  So, we’ll see how that turns out…feel free to join in if you’re interested.
