It’s time…it’s time…it’s Book End Time!  Welcome to this week’s Book End, highlighting the weekend’s literary and library events here in Hawaii.

We had a great time last weekend at the Romance Writers of America workshop meeting with Lisa Linn Kanae at Aina Haina Public Library.  Misty had a blast, as she was completely in her element.  Me, being a bit more hesitant with creative writing, still had an enjoyable time.  Misty will be doing a write-up sometime soon, so I’ll save all the fun details of the event for her.  It’s very rare for us to spend any time on the East Side, so we thought we’d make a day of it and drove down to Hawaii Kai, spending a lot of time watching ducks playing in the water at Hawaii Kai Shopping Centre.  There was one duck who looked like he had OCD, (dubbed O-C-Duck) who would literally flap his wings 8 times, duck under the water three times, swim and then repeat the procedure.  It was hilarious.  There was another duck we labeled Emo Duck because while his brethren were busy grooming themselves on the shore or swimming in the water, this guy was sulking in a dark corner, silently watching the other ducks.  As you can see, I don’t have much to talk about.  🙂

Random Fun Links!

Here’s some interesting links you might find…interesting!

Bess Press is coming out with a new book on tiki-culture called Waikiki Tiki: Art, History and Photographs and I stumbled upon an ongoing thread about the book (started by the author, no less!) at the world-famous Tiki Central Forums.  Might be worth checking out if you’re considering reading/buying the book or are just into tiki-culture in general.

If you follow the trends, memes, and social networking news on the Internet, you may have noticed that the “Old Spice Guy” has been going viral.  Here’s a short, funny clip on YouTube of the Old Spice Guy voicing his support of libraries.

Going back to new books, I’ve happened upon a few links from various sources touting new (or revised) editions of books from independent or self-publishing sources that have some kind of Hawaii connection.  Might be interesting if you’re looking for something not on the usual radar.  Check ’em out:  Wahine Noa: For the Life of My Country by Keahi Felix; In Pursuit of Love, Spirituality and Happiness by Gita Audhya (you might win a free copy if you comment); When Pele Stirs: A Volcanic Tale of Hawai’i, Hemp, and High-Jinks by Wendell A. Duffield.

Anyway, if you follow us on Twitter @HawaiiBookBlog then you would gain access to all of our tweets that featured the links previously mentioned plus much, much more!  And on to the events…
