On Saturday, March 15 from 9:00am to 4:30pm take your keiki to the zoo for some literary fun!

Wild About Reading at the Honolulu Zoo is the first-ever family read-aloud day at the Zoo. The focus will be on books about zoos and zoo animals. Featured readers and storytellers will entertain zoo-goers at various stations located throughout the zoo from 10am to 3pm. There will be crafts, displays and kid-friendly music on the Main Lawn throughout the day.

Chee-Lin A Giraffe's JourneyThe first 500 families admitted to the Zoo on the event day will also receive a ticket for a complimentary copy of Chee-Lin: A Giraffe’s Journey by the extremely talented local children’s author James Rumford.

This is a wonderful event that creatively encourages our keiki to read and explore the world through books. We think this is a great opportunity to enjoy some family fun and interact with our talented local authors. For more info, view the flyer below:

That weekend, Saturday & Sunday, March 15-16, there will also be a special Barnes & Noble Bookfair at the Ala Moana Center store that will help benefit Children’s Literature Hawaiʻi. At B&N Ala Moana you will be able to choose from a specially ordered collection of the zoo and animal books that are featured at the “Wild About Reading” event; books you wouldn’t normally find at the store! Be sure to bring your keiki on either 11AM on Saturday or 1PM on Sunday for a special children’s book reading with guest Curious George! Any purchases made in store or online during the Bookfair using the event ID number (#11315884) will help benefit CLH’s Biennial Conference on Literature & Hawaii’s Children. Online, the Bookfair extends from March 15 to March 22.
