With summer here, Representative Della Au Belatti and the Makiki Community Library want to help you with your summer reading! In collaboration with Friends of the Makiki Community Library, the Makiki Summer Reading Program is a 6-week program that encourages reading out loud, reading with family members, and reading for fun. Please drop by the Library at 1527 Keeaumoku Street during its operating hours (Wednesdays, 2:00-6:00pm; and Saturdays & Sundays, 12:00 noon-4:00pm) to pick up a Keiki Reading Log or print and use the attached PDF of the Makiki Summer Reading Program library packet (see the bottom of this post).

The Reading Program launched this past Wednesday with approximately 200 children receiving a version of the previously mentioned Reading Log.  There’s still plenty of time to join in the fun, so get your children excited for reading and be sure to visit the Makiki Community Library as often as you can.  The library packet also contains a Recommended Reading List of local books for children to read.

On Friday, June 24th, starting at 5:30 pm, the Library will host a Family Movie Night featuring the C.S.Lewis classic that follows the Narnian adventurers on the Dawn Treader. Readers are encouraged to bring their reading logs to “check-in” with their reading progress and receive a small prize.  At the end of the 6-week program, readers who meet or exceed expectations will also receive a small award for meeting their reading goals!
